The Return to Castlevania DLC is split up into two major sections. The first section has you visit Dracula’s Castle by way of the Prisoner’s Quarters, with the end result being a fight with Death. The second section has you visit Dracula’s Castle through theClock Room after you’ve beaten Death. It is during this second run/section that you can unlock Richter Mode.

To unlock Richter Mode make your way to Dracula’s Castle through the Clock Room. Once you are in Dracula’s Castle head to the right side and look for a shining upside down statue that you can interact with called theLore Room. Approach and interact with this statue to ‘cross over’. On the otherside everything is inverted. Go to the right until you find a cage with Richter inside. Free Richter to unlock Richter Mode.

Once you have Richter Mode unlocked you can start using it on the next subsequent runs. Simply visit Dracula’s Castle and find the room again. Interact with the statue and go to the cage where Richter was. Interact with the cage to start a Richter Mode run.

What’s Different in Richter Mode?

While playing Richter Mode you will notice a few changes to the core gameplay. In this mode controlling Richter is akin to controlling him in the game. Instead of the traditional Dead Cells controls there are changes in place such as the double jump being replaced with a backflip. Additionally as you progress through the level you will unlock two more abilities that are:

  • Dash.
  • High Jump.

If you are wondering if there is a reason to play Richter Mode the answer is yes. In Richter Mode there are a couple of unlockable items that carry over into the base game. These items are outfits and also weapons which can be found in the level, or earned by defeating the Richter Mode boss.
