I’ve released a mod that fixes stuttering and some other performance issues in the game (which are caused by modern GPU drivers being pretty bad at handling exclusive-mode 16bpp video outputs) under the Direct3D renderer without breaking any graphical features.

You can get it here (read the README for installation information).

Requires game version 1.0.0.62 (or you will get a crash to desktop right after starting the game).

It also fixes glitched video cutscenes which are caused by some other fixes discussed here.

There still are some graphical issues (mostly in non-gameplay cases – e.g. glitched savegame previews and their loading screens and broken credits) which I’ll eventually try to fix as well (and maybe even improve the renderer beyond what the game originally had – add scaling etc), but the game is completely playable.

Note: it is recommended to set the game to Windows 7 compatibility mode anyway.
