Monster Hunter Rise – How to Use Your Palico in Multiplayer

I’ve seen a number of posts on the games forum noting that Palicoes are disabled when joining multiplayer hunts but that isn’t the case. This is just a quick guide explaining how your multiplayer buddy is chosen and how to change them.

Whenever you participate in a multiplayer quest in Monster Hunter rise you only get to take a single buddy with you as opposed to the two you can take when questing solo. The buddy you take with you is whichever is currently in Buddy Slot 1 which by default is your Palamute from character creation. If you aren’t seeing Palicoes in multiplayer quests then your fellow hunters either haven’t changed their buddies or have changed that slot for another Palamute.

If you wish to take your Palico into multiplayer rather than your Palamute then this is easy to set up:

  • Visit the Buddy Board in either your room or Buddy Plaza.
  • Select Buddy 1.
  • Select Palicoes.
  • Select your desired Palico.

If you want to keep the same two buddies and merely change their sots this will be done automatically if you chose your current Buddy 2 to place in the first slot.

I love two things in life, games and sports. Although sports were my earliest interest, it was video games that got me completely addicted (in a good way). My first game was Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from the legendary studio Naughty Dog back in 1996. I turned my passion for gaming into a job back in 2019 when I transformed my geek blog (Re-actor) into the gaming website it is today.
