Coral Pukei-Pukei behaves very differently from its standard counterpart. Sure it’s still spewing guck at you. Only this time you’re dealing with water based attacks that inflict water blight, making your stamina drain extremely quickly when used. The Nullberries we mentioned to bring earlier will cure you of this blight.
In general, the most dangerous place to be around the Coral Pukei-Pukei is at a distance. It uses its tail like a fire hose, with many attacks that spray water at an extremely high velocity and in wide ranging arcs in a straight line, a back in forth motion, or a spiral all around it. These can be extremely hard to avoid when at a distance to Coral Pukei-Pukei. Try to stay tight to its body, dealing damage on the sides. You’ll also notice that after feeding, the Coral Pukei-Pukei’s water attacks from its face and tail are both enhanced.
However, you can combat the tail attacks if you wish. The tail here is severable, meaning after you cut it off, you also cut off about 75% of Coral Pukei-Pukei’s move set, so focus most of your attacks there if you’re a bladed user.
It also has several water attacks it can issue from its mouth including a 3 water shot attack, as well as a jet stream of water that it can choose to split in two with its tongue, making an expanding V-shape that you’ll have to try to avoid. Yet more reasons that the best place to fight the Coral Pukei-Pukei is close to its side, whaling on the tail if you can.
