Gameplay / Missable Achievements

The following achievements are missable, as they have special requirements that need to be met in certain parts of the story and once you progress past that part of the story, you can no longer go back and achieve them (unless you are using a save game for a specific part).

Pegleg
Fulfilled Your Restroom Obligations

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Prelude – An Unexpected Story Begins” part of the story, while you are playing as Boybrush.

In order to get this achievement you will need to get the pegleg with the outhouse key item that’s hanging on the hook on the left wall inside of the Scurvy Dog shop.

Once you have the key, go outside and use it to unlock the door to the outhouse. Afterwards, go back to the shop and place the pegleg with the outhouse key item back on it’s place on the hook.

As soon as the dialogue ends, the achievement should unlock.

Lucky Duck
Shared Your Luck

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Prelude – An Unexpected Story Begins” part of the story, while you are playing as Boybrush.

In order to get this achievement you will need to advance with the story until reaching the park area and have your to do list updated by Dee. From there, go to the right side of area, on the grass patch with a sign where you will find the four-leaf clover.

Pick up the four-leaf clover and go on the dock of the little pond and use the four-leaf clover item on the duck that’s swimming around.

As soon as the duck gets its new look, the achievement will unlock.

Fan Service
Convinced Cobb To Tell You About LOOM

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

After the failed attempt to bargain for finance with the new three Pirate Leaders, Guybrush will angrily exit the Scumm Bar into the Docks area.

Cobb will appear in the Scumm Bar only after you change the scene entirely. You can to this in 3 ways:

  • Go to the Lookout.
  • Stroll along the Docks (where LeChuck’s ship is anchored).
  • Go to the Low Street area where you will meet Elaine (exhaust her dialogue options).

After going in any of the 3 areas, return to the Docks, enter the Scumm Bar and you will find there a new character: Cobb.

Say hi to him and then choose the following dialogue options:

  1. Tell me about LOOM.
  2. Then why don’t you take off the “Ask Me About Loom” button?
  3. Oh, come on. Tell me about Loom. For old times’ sake.
  4. Say It!
  5. Saaayyyy it!

After finally getting him to tell you all about LOOM, the achievement will unlock.

Cartography Nerd
Thoroughly Examined All Of Wally’s Stock

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

For this achievement, you will need to be inside Wally’s shop: “Wally’s Maps-n-More”. You can get here only after Guybrush fails to board on LeChuck’s ship: after exhausting all the dialogue with the quartermaster and returning to the docks, a scripted event will play with the Voodoo Lady talking to “someone” about Wally leaving the Chamber of Commerce Midnight Luncheon early. Only then, Wally’s shop will be open.

Once in the shop, you need to interact with all 18 maps, as shown in the screenshot below:

After interacting with all of the 18 maps, the achievement will unlock.

Hey Wait!
Freed Otis

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

In order to get this achievement you will need to advance with the story until the failed attempt to bargain for finance with the new three Pirate Leaders. After Guybrush will angrily exit the Scumm Bar into the Docks, head towards LeChuck’s ship on the pier and interact with the quartermaster. After exhausting all the dialogue with her and returning to the docks, a scripted event will play with the Voodoo Lady talking to Curator Conrad about Wally leaving the Chamber of Commerce Midnight Luncheon early. Wally’s shop will now be open. Go inside Wally’s Maps-n-More and inspect the monocle. Now, you can get the monocle from its case.

Next, head to the Locke Smith’s shop in the High Street, interact with her and exhaust all her dialogue options regarding the making of a key. Exit the shop and enter the jail across the road. Here you will find Otis locked up in the cell on the right. Interact with him, exhaust all his dialogue options and then inspect the lock on cell’s door. Use the monocle on the lock in order magnify the code and obtain the serial number of the lock.

Return to the Locke Smith’s shop and give her the serial number in order to make a key.

Head back to the jail and use the key on the Otis’ cell door lock.

You will get the achievement once the door is unlocked and open.

Mop Heist (Hidden)
Attempted To Steal The Cook’s Mop

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

In order to get this achievement you will need to advance with the story until the failed attempt to bargain for finance with the new three Pirate Leaders. After Guybrush will angrily exit the Scumm Bar into the Docks, head towards LeChuck’s ship on the pier and interact with the quartermaster. After exhausting all the dialogue with her and returning to the docks, enter the Scumm Bar and go into the kitchen. Interact with the cook, exhaust all his dialogue options (sending you on the spiritual voyage to craft your own mop) and once again exit the Scumm Bar.

Change the scene (e.g. by heading towards the Lookout point) in order to make the Fancy pirate (the nightmare customer) appear at a white table inside the Scumm Bar. Go into the kitchen and talk once again with the cook, exhausting all his dialogue options, learning that the cook needs a recipe in order to prepare a special meal. Exit the Scumm Bar, go into the Low Street and head inside the International House of Mojo. Exhaust all the dialogue options with the Voodoo Lady and inspect the frog on the table (to the bottom left side of the screen). Buy the apology frog and travel to the Governor’s Mansion.

After the insult swordfight ends, inspect the “Ingredients” by Barbie Leflay cookbook on the middle shelf of the bookcase and attempt to borrow it. Carla will not allow you to take the book as she expects an apology.

If you are playing on Casual Mode: You can give Carla the forgiveness frog and then she will forgive Guybrush and let him borrow the cookbook.

If you are playing on Hard Mode: You will need to write the apology on the forgiveness frog that you picked earlier, but in order to find the right combination of words, you will need to inspect the plaque underneath Carla’s statue (Low Street) and the poster of Carla hanged in the Docks.

Note: Each information from these two items is randomized on each walkthrough, therefore you will have to find these for yourself!

Combine the State of the Art Pen item with the apology frog item and and select the proper dialogue choices. Return to Carla, give her the apology frog and now you can successfully borrow the cookbook.

With the cookbook item in your inventory, return to the cook and offer him the book.

Once the cook is busy preparing the meal, grab the mop and leave the kitchen and then exit the Scumm Bar. The cook will catch you right before exiting in short cinematic and the achievement will unlock.

Bookworm
Found All The Copies of ‘At The End Of The Plank’

This achievement can be STARTED during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush. You will be able to unlock it during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story.

In order to unlock the achievement you will need to find (and interact with) 5 different copies of the book “At The End Of The Plank” through different parts of the story.

During Part I, you will find 2 books on Mêlée Island:

  • 5) On the Terror Island, in the cave where Hermin Toothrot is living, next to his stone bed – a cover of a purple book.

Bragging
Told Everyone On Mêlée Island That You Are Looking For The Secret

This achievement can be STARTED during the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush. You will be able to unlock it during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story, if you haven’t activated the “Writer’s Cut” option in the main menu.

In order to unlock the achievement you will need to interact with 15 different characters throughout different parts of the story. This achievement is HIGHLY MISSABLE, as you will need to select specific dialogue lines; some of the lines will disappear if other lines are selected before them and they will be lost unless you reload a save and interact with that character again.

The lines usually refer to Guybrush bragging about going on an adventure to discover the Secret of the Monkey Island, but some times the line are “hidden” after some other dialogue options related to the expedition.

Note: The “Writer’s Cut” option in the main menu adds extra dialogue and sometimes extra characters. By enabling this mode in your walkthough, you can unlock the achievement during Part I, as extra characters will be spawned on Mêlée Island. It can be activated at any time and for it to take effect you only need to change the scene (e.g. if you are in Low Street, go to the Docks and then to the Low Street).

During Part I, you can brag to 14 characters on Mêlée Island without the “Writer’s Cut” mode activated:

  • 1) The Lookout (old man) – you will talk with him at the beginning of Part I; his lines are counted automatically, as you inform him of your every plan
  • 2) The three new Pirate Leaders – in the Docks area, at the Scumm Bar when talking to them to receive funding/finance for the expedition; select the line: “I am going to find The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 3, 4, 5) The three pirates at the entrance of the Scumm Bar: the woman at the keg, the woman sitting at the table and the man sitting at the table – available after talking to the three new Pirate Leaders; interact with each one of them and Guybrush will automatically say “I am going to find The Secret of Monkey Island!”

Note: During Part IV, you will find one of the three pirates from the Scumm Bar (the lady pirate at the keg) sitting in front of the now destroyed Scumm Bar. If you missed her dialogue during Part I, now you have the chance to talk with her and Guybrush will automatically say upon interacting the second time with her: “I’m closer than ever to finding The Secret of Monkey Island!”.

  • 6) The Cook – in the Docks area, in the kitchen of the Scumm Bar; select the line: “Did I mention I’m going to find The Secret of Monkey Island?”
  • 7) Cobb – in the Docks area, in the Scumm Bar, after he spawns at the table; select the line: “I am going to find The Secret of Monkey Island! Wanna come?”
  • 8) Wally – in the Low Street area, at his shop Wally’s Maps-n-more when it’s open; select the line: “You wouldn’t happen to have a map to The Secret of Monkey Island?”
  • 9) The Vodoo Lady – in the Low Street area, when encountering her for the first time at her shop the International House of Mojo; select the line: “I’m going in search of The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 10) Governor Carla – in the Governor’s Mansion, when encountering her for the first time, during the insulting swordfight; select the lines: “I’ve got my own project cooking” followed by “I’m looking for the Secret of Monkey Island.”
  • 11) Locke Smith – in the High Street area, in her shop; select the line: “I’m on a quest to find The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 12) Otis – in the High Street area, within the Jail, in the right cell; select the line: “Big news: I’m going after The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 13) Stan – in the High Street area, within the Jail, in the left cell; select the line: “I’m going after The Secret of Monkey Island!”

Note: During Part IV, you will find Stan in the Ice Quarry. If you missed his dialogue during Part I, you have the chance to talk with him; choose the line: “My hunt for the The Secret of Monkey Island is going great!”.

  • 14) Curator Conrad – in the Forest, within the Museum of Pirate Lore; select the line: “I’m going to find the legendary Secret of Monkey Island!”

During Part I, you can brag to 1 more character if you activate the “Writer’s Cut” mode:

  • 15) Low Moral Fiber (Pirates) – in the Low Street, left to Wally’s Maps-n-More shop; select the line: “How would you like to back my venture to find The Secret of Monkey Island!”

During Part IV, you can brag to the remaining character(s) on Mêlée Island without the “Writer’s Cut” mode activated:

  • 16) Former Pirate Leader – in the High Street area, within the Fish shop; select the line: “I’m hunting for The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 17) Ned – on the Barebones Island; select the line: “I’m on a quest to recover The Secret of Monkey Island!”
  • 18) Judge – on the Brrr Muda Island, in the Town Center, in the Courthouse; select the line: “Did I mention I am searching for The Secret of Monkey Island?”
  • 19) Ice Queen – on the Brrr Muda Island, in the Ice Castle; select the line: “I need your help to recover The Secret of Monkey Island!”

After talking with the 15th character and choosing the right dialogue line, the achievement will unlock.

Mop Top (Hidden)
Got Hired With All Four Mop Heads

This achievement can be unlocked at the end of the “Part I – A Friendly Place” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

In order to get this achievement you will need to craft four different mops and board the ship of LeChuck.

You will have to craft any kind of mop in order to progress the story and begin the second part of the story, therefore you will need to gather the following two progression items: mop handle (carved from the special tree) and the Enchanted Eyepatch. After gathering these two key items, proceed to gather four more items which you will need to craft every type of mop:

  • 1) The String – found outside the Kitchen in the Scumm Bar, next to the wooden seagull on the dock
  • 2) The Shrunken Head – found in the International House of Mojo, on the table
  • 3) The Stuffed Animal – found inside Carla’s mansion, on an armchair
  • 4) The Sponge – found in the Shipyard, to the right side of the screen, next to the rusty bucket

After you have all these necessary items, go to the pier where LeChuck’ ship is anchored and equip the Enchanted Eyepatch.

Do not combine the items and make a save game here!

Proceed to combine one of the four items with the handle in order to craft a mop. Give the mop to the quartermaster so that she can inspect it and you will be automatically hired. After beginning the second part of the game and finishing the dialogue with Gullet, reload the save you made earlier.

Combine the second item with the handle and show it to the quartermaster.

Repeat the process until you have created all the four mops and after you will get hired and board the ship for the 4th time, the achievement will unlock.

Super Swabbie
Swabbed The Hold Twenty Times

This achievement can be unlocked at the beginning of the “Part II – A Dangerous Journey” part of the story, while you are playing as Withered Zombie Guybrush.

As the description suggests, you will need to clean up the grease from the hold’s floor for 20 times. After the initial dialogue with Gullet ends, you will have to pick up the mop in order to get to work and swab the pile of grease at the base of the ladder.

Gullet will then throw another grease on the floor and he will continue to do so each time you will swab it up.

Proceed to swab up the grease 20 times and then the achievement will unlock.

Dead Dead Dead (Hidden)
Died For Real

This achievement can be unlocked during multiple parts of the game.

The first time when you can attempt this achievement, is during the “Part II – A Dangerous Journey” part of the story, while you are playing as Withered Zombie Guybrush.

After escaping the Hold through the window and reaching the exterior side of the hull of LeChuck’s ship, head to the back of the ship (left).

Make a save game here

Check out the rudder and Guybrush will descend underwater and a timer will appear in top-right corner of the screen with a countdown of 8 minutes.

Wait until the timer runs out and a short cinematic will play, followed by another timer of 6 minutes. Wait until this timer runs out as well and another short cinematic will play, followed by a last timer of 4 minutes. When this timer will run out, Guybrush will die (for real) and the achievement will unlock during the last cinematic.

Note: After the cinematic ends, you will be brought to the main menu, unable to continue if you haven’t made the above mentioned save.

The second time when you can attempt this achievement, is at the very beginning of the “Part III – Return to Monkey Island” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Immediately after the Part III begins, you will find yourself at the bottom of the sea, with a timer in top-right corner of the screen with a countdown of 8 minutes.

Make a save game here

By progressing and going to the right side of the screen, 2-in-game minutes will pass. The same logic applies when going backwards, to the left. Continue to change scenes until the timer runs out, three times in a row.

When the last timer runs out, Guybrush will die (for real) and the achievement will unlock during the last cinematic.

Note: After the cinematic ends, you will be brought to the main menu, unable to continue if you haven’t made the above mentioned save.

Neat Freak
Listed Every Mess On The First Swab’s Report

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part II – A Dangerous Journey” part of the story, while you are playing as Withered Zombie Guybrush.

In order to unlock the achievement you will need to add on the swabbie report a total of 8 messes, found and made around the whole ship. This achievement is HIGHLY MISSABLE, as you can write down only 5 messes on the report, therefore you will need to use a save game in order to write all 8 of them down.

At the beginning of Part II, after the initial dialogue with Gullet ends, you will have to pick up the mop in order to get to work and swab the pile of grease at the base of the ladder. At this point you will need to make a lot of mess around the entire Hold, because progressing with the story will make Gullet disappear and you will have no one to throw you grease any longer (this part must be done before crafting the potion). With you mop dirtied by the grease, proceed to stain every spot in the Hull, as shown in the screenshot below:

Also, while still in the Hold, take some chicken feed and feed it to the chicken on the far right corner of the screen so that the chicken will also make a “mess”.

After making a mess of the Hull, progress until making the potion. After the cinematic in which Gullet spills the cauldron, go to LeChuck’s cabin and complete the first dialogue. He will then throw out of the cabin. You must enter a second time, interact with him and select any dialogue line. After getting an answer, he will also give you the First Swab’s Report.

Make a save game here

At this point, you must combine the “First Swab’s Report” item with the messes found all over the ship. Add the first 5 messes on the report then load the save you made earlier. Now add the remaining 3 messes and the achievement will unlock.

The 8 messes you need to make are the following:

  • 1) Grease spots in hold
  • 2) Greasy porthole
  • 3) Splattered ghost chicken glop in hold – the chicken poo, after you feed it previously
  • 4) Potion stain on upper deck
  • 5) Entire galley is an unsanitary disaster – select any of the messes in the kitchen
  • 6) Ghostly vermin infestation belowdecks – rat on the crate, next to the LeChuck’s cabin
  • 7) Unsightly obstructing ship’s rudder – Gullet stuck in the rudder, underwater
  • 8) Unsecured trash (empty crates) on upper deck – select any of the used up potion supplies crates on the front and back part of the upper deck

Free Wally
Rescued Wally From Monkey Island

This achievement can be STARTED during either “Part II – A Dangerous Journey” OR “Part III – Return to Monkey Island” parts of the story, while you are playing as either Withered Zombie Guybrush or as Guybrush disguised as Gullet.

In order to begin this achievement, you need to be on LeChuck’s ship, where you will use the pair of monocles on the shackles found in front of the upper deck, next to the empty crates. Please note that the shackles will not appear as interactable unless you drag the monocles from your inventory onto them.

This achievement is HIGHLY MISSABLE, because if you progress past the Part III, you cannot obtain the serial code anymore.

After obtaining the serial code for the shackles, progress through the story until reaching Part IV and you get back on Mêlée Island. Head to the Locke Smith’s shop in the High Street and give her the serial number so that she makes a key for opening the shackles.

Continue playing through the story until reaching Part V. After accessing the cavern beneath the Giant Monkey Head, continue forward until seeing Wally shackled in air, above the lava.

Use the “LeShip’s shackle key” item on the shackles and after Wally gets down, the achievement will unlock.

Hot Headed (Hidden)
Braved The Scorched Alaska

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part II – A Dangerous Journey” part of the story, while you are playing as Withered Zombie Guybrush.

You will need to get everyone on the ship to vote with Guybrush as part of the progression. For this achievement, you will need to take a bite from the Scorched Alaska. In order to do so, you have to find out about the Schorched Alaska (Flambe’s favourite dessert) and you have to help Putra to become a chef and get her to make the hot dessert.

The process of obtaining a hot Scorched Alaska dessert is a bit different, depending on what difficulty mode you are playing on:

Casual Mode – on this mode, Putra will make the dessert automatically very hot, as the pepper shaker is filled up. The pepper shaker will disappear, once the dessert is made.

Hard Mode – on this mode, the pepper shaker is empty, so you will need to make the dessert hot yourself. Go on the upper deck and use the knife from the inventory on the torch to cut its tip off. Combine the freshly cut hot tip of the torch with the dessert in order to increase its heat level.

After getting the Hot Schorched Alaska, have Guybrush take a bite from it 4 times. He will refuse at first, but at the 4th attempt, he will take a bite and the achievement will unlock.

Not Bitter
Got To The Heart Of The Problem

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part III – Return to Monkey Island” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

At the very beginning of the Part III, after walking the distance to the island underwater, Guybrush will find himself on the beach of Monkey Island. On the left side of the spot from which he will emerge from the water, there is a the tree with a romantic heart carving on it (with the “L+E” inscription carved inside of it).

After thoroughly examining the cute romantic heart inscription for three times, the option to kick the inscription (the tree) will be available.

Have Guybrush kick the heart carving (the tree) for 5 times, and the achievement will unlock.

Tight Ship
Decked Out The Sea Monkey II With Spooky Skulls

This achievement can be STARTED near the end of the “Part III – Return to Monkey Island” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Progress through the story until Guybrush is saved by Elaine, and then pick up Murray and the “Ship Repair Manual” item. Head back to the Giant Monkey Head location and pick up all the impaled skulls that were needed for the theme song ritual puzzle earlier.

At this point you should have 7 skulls (including Murray) in your inventory, BEFORE repairing the ship, as this action will automatically end Part III.

If by any chance you missed one of them, here are the locations for the 6 skulls you need to collect:

  • 1) On the left side of the beach, where you first got on the island (on the far left of the tree with the heart carving)
  • 2) On the Volcano Beach, on the left side near the driftwood
  • 3) Underwater, on the left side of the LeChuck’s ship anchor
  • 4) On top of the cliff
  • 5) On the left side of the beach where the shipwreck of Sea Monkey is located
  • 6) On a rock, before reaching the Giant Monkey Head stone statue

Now, with the “Ship Repair Manual” and the seven skulls, head to the beach where the shipwreck of Sea Monkey is located, where Elaine is waiting. Take the “Ship Repair Manual” item and combine it with the shipwreck. Part III will end with a cinematic and you will find yourself back in Mêlée Island at the beginning of Part IV.

After Elaine leaves to help the injured, the achievement will unlock.

Get inside the Fish shop in the High Street and notice that a yellow Lumpsucker is laying on the floor (next to the crate of other Lumpsuckers). By exiting the shop and entering it once more, you will notice that the Lumpsucker moves a little bit forward on the floor. For this achievement, you need to let the Lumpsucker escape the Fish shop. Therefore you will need to exit and re-enter the shop until the fish reaches the door and then escapes outside.

You will need to perform this action for roughly 30 times, and the achievement will unlock once the Lumpsucker is gone.

Go towards the Governor’s house and in front of it you will see a big crowd. Choose the “wait in line” option and Guybrush will place himself at the end of the line.

Once in the line, wait for 3 minutes without doing anything, and the achievement will unlock.

Promise Keeper
Did Gullet A Favor

Warning: This achievement can only be unlocked in Hard Mode, due to the fact that the Museum of Pirate Lore will be closed during Part IV

This achievement can be STARTED during the “Part III – Return to Monkey Island” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush. You will be able to unlock it during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story .

During Part III as a natural progression of the story, you need to make Gullet give Guybrush his book of poems. The process of obtaining the “Gullet’s Poems” book is a bit different, depending on what difficulty mode you are playing on:

Casual Mode – Gullet will give you willingly his poems books if asked, after you previously helped him with his rhymes.

Hard Mode – After helping Gullet with his rhymes, you need to give him Curator Conrad’s business card (item received automatically from Conrad when entering the Museum for the first time in Part I) in order for him to give you his poems book.

Next, progress through the story until reaching Part IV and meeting Widey Bones and exhausting the dialogue with her outside the International House of Mojo. From now on, you are free to explore the whole Mêlée Island once again.

Go to the Museum of Pirate Lore and use the “Gullet’s Poems” item on Curator Conrad.

After he accepts to take a look on the book, the achievement will unlock.

Offered To Donate To The Earthquake Relief

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Go to the Governer’s house and cut in front of the line to get inside the house. You then need to interact with Carla (after talking to Elaine, that leaves in a hurry) and specifically ask her about the queue in front of her house, by selecting the line: “Have you seen the line of people outside?”. She will mention that there are no funds in the public coffers in order to help the people affected by the earthquake. You may exit the dialogue and open your inventory. Now, take the coin purse and give it to Carla.

She will refuse your aid and the achievement will unlock.

Ahoy There (Hidden)
Ahoy! More Than Twenty Times

In order to set sail, you will also need to get a sea map of the islands, which you can get from Wally’s Maps-n-More. From now on, you are free to explore the whole Mêlée Island once again and to navigate on the sea.

Go to the Sea Monkey II and set sail to the sea. On the the bottom right of the Sea Map, find the adrift ship and set sail to it.

You will be greeted by two pirates with the traditional “Ahoy!”. You can salute them back and in order to get this achievement, you need repeatedly select the “Ahoy!” greeting line 20 times.

Trophy Fisher
Became A Prize Chum

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Progress through the story until meeting Widey Bones and exhausting the dialogue with her outside the International House of Mojo. In order to set sail, you will also need to get a sea map of the islands, which you can get from Wally’s Maps-n-More. From now on, you are free to explore the whole Mêlée Island once again and to navigate on the sea.

Go to the Fish shop on High Street. Depending on which difficulty you’re playing on, you will need to do two separate actions:

Casual Mode – interact twice with the Goldfish, in the fishbowl next to the door

Hard Mode – interact twice with Bella Fisher’s flag, that’s hanging from the ceiling

After finding out about the secret club, ask to join them and you will receive a fishing lure. With this lure, you need to find 5 secret members of the chums and show it to them, so that you can receive advice regarding a better storytelling technique. It doesn’t really matter how you build your story at this point, as long as you talk and receive advice from all 5 members.

The 5 members are the following:

  • 1) Locke Smith – in the High Street area, in her shop
  • 2) Pirate lady – in the Docks area, in front of the now destroyed Scumm Bar (the same lady that was sitting inside the Scumm Bar, at the keg, in Part I)
  • 3) Elaine – on the Scurvy Island
  • 4) Apple Bob – on LeChuck’s ship, on the upper deck
  • 5) Prison Guard – on the Brr Muda, guarding the entrance to the Ice Quarry

After learning the secrets of the Angler storytelling, head back to Mêlée Island, to the Fish Shop and show the lure to any of the three old pirate leaders. Then, make the following choices in order to tell the most whopper of a story:

  1. I had broken through a blockade as thick and deadly as the crab bisque at the Scumm Bar…
  2. …My ship was swallowed by a huge lunker of a whale, a real chum-chomping line-breaker if ever there was one.
  3. Inside it was like walking on soft cheese, with rivers of pea soup that stank like a landlubber’s baitbox.
  4. I made a fishing line with my own hair.
  5. The creature lit out like an old tar from a bar of soap. Of course, then we had to put out the fire.

If you choose these lines of dialogue, the three old pirate leaders will be delighted. After being declared a Grand Chum Master, the achievement will unlock.

Dental Samaritan
Gave Stan His Toothbrush

Note: During Part I, when Stan is in the jail, if you exhaust all his dialogue lines, you will find out that Stan wishes for his toothbrush to be brought to him.

Go to the Shipyard, where you will find Stan’s old shop now destroyed by the earthquake. On the table inside the shop, you can see two items: Stan’s toothbrush and a ripped picture of him. Take both items with you.

As a part of the story progression, you will need to acquire limes in order to reach the Island of Brr Muda. For this, you will need to set sail to the Scurvy Island. Head to the camp and take Elaine’s framed photo and the handwritten note mentioning her current location on the island (this information is randomized, as she changes her location on each walkthrough). Go to her and ask her permission to take some limes.

While you are here, go to the lime grove where you can see a nest (on the upper right corner of the map). In the nest, there is a picture of Guybrush that you will need further along the quest.

The process of obtaining the picture of Guybrush is a bit different, depending on what difficulty mode you are playing on:

Casual Mode – the nest is empty; simply pick up Guybrush’s picture.

Hard Mode – in the nest there will be a Seagull that hisses at Guybrush when attempting to take the picture. You will need to make the bird go away by feeding it some fish that needs to be spiced up. Buy any type fish from the Fish shop back on Mêlée Island. Next, go to LeChuck’s ship and enter the ship’s galley (the kitchen). On the table you will find the demon peeper shaker (that is now filled up). Take it and combine it with the fish bought from the Fish shop. Return to the nest on Scurvy Island and use the spiced up fish on the Seagull. After eating it, the bird will fly away and now you may take the picture of Guybrush.

Next, you need to find out where Stan is located. You can do this while you are on Mêlée Island, by talking to Otis who is imprisoned (once again) in the jail OR you can go to the Barebones Island and ask Ned where Stan is. You will find out he is in the Ice Quarry, on Brrr Muda Island.

Go to Brrr Muda Island. On the way, you will be stopped by the Judge. In order to pass you need to have the limes (taken earlier from Elaine) and you must complete a form truthfully (you can just sign your name or Elaine’s, without actually checking anything on the list). Now you have free passage to Brr Muda Island.

After reaching the Brrr Muda Island, go to the Ice Quarry. In order to enter the prison and visit Stan, you need to interact with the guard and tell him you want to see Stan. You will need to prove to the guard that you know Stan. To do so, combine the frame (taken earlier from the camp on Scurvy Island) with any picture in your inventory. Put inside the frame the picture of Stan on the left side and the picture of Guybrush on the right side. Show the picture frame to the guard and now you will have access to the prison.

Find Stan (in the back of the Ice Quarry), take the toothbrush and give it to him.

After him thanking you, the achievement will unlock.

Flag Facsimile
Performed The Ole Switcheroo With The Replica Flag

Warning: This achievement can only be unlocked in Hard Mode, due to the fact that the Museum of Pirate Lore will be closed during Part IV.

Go to the Museum of Pirate Lore, feed crackers to the two parrots (you still have this item from Part I). While the security guards are eating, use the display case key on the lock (you should still have this key from Part I) and steal the replica Flag.

Progress through the story until obtaining the new lime marketing promotional flyer.

Sail to the adrift ship and show them the the new scurvy flyer. They will leave with the flyer and some of the limes and lower the ladder.

Now that the pirates are gone, use the replica Flag on the real Bella Fisher Flag that’s hanging from a rope in the top left corner of the screen.

Upon switching the flags, the achievement will unlock.

Note: You actually need to swap the two flags. Only taking the real one and not putting the replica one in its place, will not unlock the achievement!

Deep Sea Diver
Explored The Entire Ocean Floor

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part IV – Things Get Complicated” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Progress through the story until meeting Widey Bones and exhausting the dialogue with her outside the International House of Mojo. In order to set sail, you will also need to get a sea map of the islands, which you can get from Wally’s Maps-n-More. From now on, you are free to explore the whole Mêlée Island once again and to navigate on the sea.

For this achievement you will need to dive underwater to discover all the 7 seabed variations.

In order to be able to dive underwater is a bit different, depending on what difficulty mode you are playing on:

  • Casual Mode – after dropping down the anchor, you can immediately descend to the seabed and explore it at your will
  • Hard Mode – in order to be able to breathe underwater, you need to win the burping contest inside the Fish Shop in order to obtain the Blowfish. To win this competition, you need to go to the destroyed Scumm Bar and take the exotic drink from the table next to the pirate lady. Get to the Fish shop fast and drink it while it is still fizzy (if you aren’t fast enough, the drink will become flat and you will need to get another one). Immediately begin the burping competition and when you get the chance, choose the longer burp line. After obtaining the Blowfish, inflate it and at your first dive Guybrush will stop and say that he needs to return to the surface, as he won’t be able to hold his breath any longer. Now you can interact with the inflated Blowfish from your inventory; the timer will reset at 8 minutes and Guybrush will be able to descend onto the seabed and explore it. Next time you will dive, Guybrush will use the Blowfish automatically, as long as you inflate it before diving.

You need to keep diving until discovering 6 different variations of the seabed, as they are shown in the screenshots bellow:

The 7th location is a story related one, and you will discover once you descend to the sunken ship of Bella Fisher:

Once you find all 7 seabed variations, the achievement will unlock.

I Don’t Believe
Returned To The World You Know

This achievement can be unlocked during the “Part V – Beneath the Monkey Head” part of the story, while you are playing as Guybrush.

Progress through Part V until you descend to where LeChuck was earlier and solve the stone wheel puzzle. Open the door and exit through it. Reach the High Street from the Alley, where you will meet Stan. After you receive Stan’s key ring, DO NOT progress any further.

Make A Save Game Here

Go back through the alley in which you arrived, then unlock the now closed door with the keys you received from Stan.

After you return to the cavern with lava, continue ascending the puzzle rooms until you reach the door through which you first entered. Exit through it and the achievement will unlock.

Note: Unless you didn’t make the save mentioned earlier, you won’t be able to continue your save anymore.

Cogg Island (Hidden)
Found Cogg Island

This achievement can only be unlocked after you finished the game once.

In order to get to the Cogg Island, you can simply reload an earlier save or begin a new walkthrough and advance with the story until reaching Part IV.

The exact location of the Cogg Island is tied to the trivia card no.2 on the 9th page. Until you finish the game, the answers will be generic and incorrect.

The correct answer will be revealed only after completing the game once.

It will be a location based on the X and Y coordinates from the Sea Map received from Wally in Part IV (e.g. M7). The answer to this trivia card is randomized on each game profile.

Note: Make A Save Here because you can no longer return from this point forward.

After finding out the true location of Cogg Island from the trivia card, set sail to the approximate coordinates on the Sea Map during Part IV. Lower anchor and dive underwater. You will then find yourself on an underwater island.

Head towards the center of the island and read the sign.

The achievement will unlock as soon as Guybrush finishes reading the sign.

Speed Runner
Reached The End In 2 Hours Or Less

This achievement is self explanatory: you must finish the entire game in less than 2 hours.

Recommendations:

  • Play on CASUAL mode (easier/less puzzles)
  • Use the “.” button to skip dialogues
  • Use the “ESC” button to skip cinematics
  • Use double clicking on the LMB to run faster
  • Choose the last line during dialogues in order to progress the conversation forward

Card Collector
Collected More Than Twenty Trivia Cards

To start your Trivia collection you will need to firstly get your hands on the Trivia Book that you can find within the Scumm Bar, on the table next to the pirates that are having a drink. When you pick up the Trivia Book you will automatically receive your first trivia card that you can answer straight away (question no.6 on the first page).

The Trivia cards are scattered all over the world and once they are picked up they will appear in the Trivia Book. There are not 100 cards to be found, but rather a couple of them that will respawn in certain spots after some amount of time. The cards will not contain the same questions if found in the exact same spot; they are always randomized from a pool of 100 questions. By holding the TAB button, the cards will be highlighted as well, making them more easily to spot.

For this achievement you only need to collect 20 or more trivia cards (you don’t have to answer them too in order to get this achievement).

Note: Having 8 unanswered cards in your trivia book, will cause the cards to no longer spawn in the world. Therefore you have to answer some of them in order to collect more.
