Risk of Rain 2 – Item Synergies and Gameplay Guide

What to Always Look Out For

Note: Credit goes to crab.king274

These are the most top tier rated white items that can really save your life, and even if they are what you’re going for, you should still keep a look out for them.

Tougher Times-Best item hands down. Unbelievable defense capabilities. Cap at 10.

Lens Maker’s Glasses-Best starting point for critical healing. Cap at 9.

Soldier’s Syringe-Dexterity is always great to increase, unless you’re playing as someone like Mercenary or Artificer. Cap at 10.

Topaz Brooch-Really helps with crowd control, because you’re constantly killing, therefor constantly gaining more shields per stack. Having 2 is great, but you shouldn’t go past 5.

Old Guillotine-Obviously on the list, but it will be nerfed to green in the next update. Hopefully get around 4.

Goat Hoof and Energy Drink-Speed is the highest priority, so these are really good as well. Only take 1 hoof, but keep stacking those energy drinks if you have nothing better to do. (No Cap)

Cautious Slug-Very great source of regeneration early game, so they’re worth picking up. Fungus sux on everyone but Engineer so don’t pick those up with anyone else. Cap at 1 of each.

And with these in mind, we’re ready to move on to the randomness.

Speed Synergies

Speed items work well with characters like Commando, Mercenary, Huntress, and Rex.

Following the “Dip in, reel back” strategy for characters with low base health (Huntress) or short range (Mercenary) to play with, speed just enhances the chance of survival. Here is a list of items to look out for when you’re goal is movement speed:

Hoof/Drink+Red Whip-Sure, whip is pretty terrible, but early game, this is great for strafing and traversing the field. This is meant to work with the “reel back” part of the strategy, where you fall back to regen and dodge.

Hoof+Pauldron (If you can get a rose buckler too, that helps a little.) Since Berserker’s Pauldron gives a boost of movespeed after killing 3 enemies at a time, it’s one of the best ways to transition between the dip to reel, because it lasts for a few seconds. Upon triggering the Pauldron, lay low until it where’s off, (Or try to fight with it’s attack speed) then use your hoof to get back in the fight (or reel to dip) and deal some damage quicker, and hopefully avoid those freaking lemurian fireballs.

Drink+Pauldron+Whip-Basically everything above combined. but this would be very mid game.

Defense Synergies

So, I’m just gonna say this right now, DON’T DO THIS PAST ABYSSAL DEPTHS 1. Thanks.

Transcendence+Generators-If you have literally zero healing items, this is like a last resort. If you can avoid danger for a few seconds, then your shield will instantly repair itself. PSG’s just add to the pool.

Teddies+Slug(s)-Best chance to reverse RPG the crap outta stuff is the teddy bears. Pick up 10, and you got 60% chance to block incoming damage, and that (even 1) gives enough time for slug to juice HP out of itself, meaning you have more time to think about stuff.

Brooch+Trans=yes

What’s that? Attack speed and strength? Just slap some Syringes and Wisps together and you got some pennies to spend. (not a build guide remember)
