Hello, as someone who is active in the rust chat quite a bit I’ve taken note of the many people complaining about censorship.

For example if I say “I love sucking ♥♥♥♥♥” then majority of chat will see “I love sucking *****”, this has annoyed some people.

Luckily for us there is a way to turn it off, if you follow the steps below you should be able to see everything typed into chat without even needing to restart your game.

Walkthrough

  1. Open the Steam overlay (or just Steam).
  2. Go to Steam Preferences (click your username in the top right and press preferences).
  3. Scroll down to the “COMMUNITY CONTENT PREFERENCES” section.
  4. Find the “CHAT FILTERING” subsection.
  5. Under “LANGUAGE PREFERENCES” select “Do not filter strong profanity or slurs”.
  6. Close the overlay, no need to press save or anything. The game should automatically remove the censorship from chat.

I love two things in life, games and sports. Although sports were my earliest interest, it was video games that got me completely addicted (in a good way). My first game was Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from the legendary studio Naughty Dog back in 1996. I turned my passion for gaming into a job back in 2019 when I transformed my geek blog (Re-actor) into the gaming website it is today.
