This only applies with materials that can be fabricated into another object with the same material, for example a wiring kit or copper wire.
What you need to do is convert some or all of your copper, silver, titanium into there others forms (copper wire, wiring kit, titanium ingot).
Once you need to use the materials chuck it in the Recyclotron and you will get your materials back.
