VAIL – Official FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is VAIL VR?

VAIL VR is a virtual reality multiplayer competitive shooter set in the near future. Play against others in a variety of competitive game modes, in beautiful brutalist inspired maps, and with immersive guns and physics.

Throw magazines to teammates, bounce grenades around corners, climb ladders, vault over obstacles, ride ziplines, defy gravity on jump pads, and more. You can also trust that every match will be competitive and fair because everything in VAIL is designed for the highest degree of competitive integrity.

After a fast-paced match, challenge friends to mini-games in the social hub, flex gun and avatar skins, or 1v1 friends. More social experiences and custom homes, game modes and experiences are in development.

VAIL is developed by AEXLAB, a crowdfunded VR technology studio based in Miami, FL. The game is in full production with plans to bring the game to Quest 2 and other platforms.

Where can I get the game?

The game is available now in early access on Steam for $19.99

It is compatible with all PCVR headsets that can connect to SteamVR. If you can connect your Quest to a VR-ready PC either through Air Link or Oculus Link, you can play VAIL.

The game is not available for Quest standalone right now, but we have plans to bring the game to other platforms, including Quest 2, by the end of 2023.

How much does VAIL cost?

VAIL costs $19.99 USD and is only available on Steam for now.

When will VAIL be on Quest 2?

We are actively working on a Quest 2 port and plan to release it by the end of 2023.

Is VAIL coming to PSVR2 or Pico?

After the Quest 2 port, we plan to bring VAIL to other platforms, including Playstation VR 2 and Pico.

Will VAIL be cross platform?

Yes! No matter what version of VAIL you play, you’ll be able to play with anyone else that also owns VAIL, no matter what platform they use.

I got access to VAIL Alpha, do I get to keep the game?

If you were given access to VAIL Alpha, you get to keep the game. VAIL Alpha is the same as VAIL with the only difference being that you can’t purchase DLCs (skins). This is a limitation set by Steam that we cannot control. If you wish to get some skins, we encourage you to purchase the main version of the game.

Gameplay

What game modes does VAIL have?

Our main competitive game mode is Artifact, which is inspired by Search and Destroy. We also have Capture the Orb (our take on Capture the Flag), Team Deathmatch, Free For All, and 1v1’s.

How do you play Artifact?

In Artifact, the Colonists have a single scanner that they must bring to one of two artifact sites and deploy. To deploy the artifact, a Colonist must hold the scanner palm up and then use your other hand to connect the dots. REYAB can disable the scan by grabbing the artifact and holding trigger.

Each match is first to 11, with side swaps after 10 rounds. A normal round lasts 2 minutes, but the match timer stops once the Artifact is deployed. Colonists win a round by killing all of the REYAB, or successfully completing a scan. REYAB win a round by disabling the scanner if it has been deployed, or killing all of the Colonists before the scanner is deployed.

Can I host custom or private games?

Yes, just select custom game from the menu. If you want it to be private, select that option and it will auto generate a 5 digit password. Keep in mind that the host can also change the map and game mode at any time, no need to start a new lobby.

Where are the servers located?

We have servers located all over the world including US East, US West, South America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.

Will VAIL sell skins and other cosmetics?

Yes! We have a few skin packs for sale on Steam as optional DLCs and in the future we plan to have a full store of cosmetics in game.

Keep in mind that if you have access to VAIL Alpha, you cannot purchase DLCs. This is a limitation of Steam that we cannot control.

A few select skins have been given out to the community for being active in the community, supporting us on Patreon, or participating in tournaments.

I love two things in life, games and sports. Although sports were my earliest interest, it was video games that got me completely addicted (in a good way). My first game was Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from the legendary studio Naughty Dog back in 1996. I turned my passion for gaming into a job back in 2019 when I transformed my geek blog (Re-actor) into the gaming website it is today.
