What are Upgrades

Upgrades in Captain Starshot are pick up items that are found inside of enemy spaceships. Upgrades can enhance the capabilities of what the player can do and add new powers to the your squad members.

How to collect Upgrades

To collect an upgrade walk on top of the icon representing said upgrade and assign it to either the captain or a squad member by clicking on their portrait inside of the inventory wheel (black circle that appears when walking on top of upgrades).

Types of Upgrades

In Captain Starshot there are two types of upgrades and I will explain them in detail here:

Abilities

Abilities are human made upgrades that are only assignable to crew members. If the player has no crew members left then no ability can be picked up neither stored, sadly this upgrade must be left behind so try not to lose all your crew members.

Modifiers

Modifiers are alien made upgrades that are only assignable to Captain Starshot.

Note: all upgrades can be added to your team the same way as explained before. To easily differentiate abilities from modifiers keep an eye for the text boxes of each since abilities will have a themed explanation of what they do while modifiers only describe the values that will be modified.

How to lose abilities?

The player can lose upgrades on the following cases:

  • The player has no crew members left to assign abilities to.
  • The player has reach the maximum capacity for how many upgrades the squad can hold.
  • A crew member that’s holding abilities gets killed in combat.

My first game was Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from the legendary studio Naughty Dog back in 1996. I turned my passion for gaming into a job back in 2019 when I transformed my geek blog (Re-actor) into the gaming website it is today.
