Jupiter Hell – Short Sniper Guide

This mastery actually makes the Monster a good weapon.

Guide to Sniper

Introduction

Sniper is an under-appreciated mastery that is flexible, as in it works with many weapon types, and powerful since it enables OHKOs.

It is really counter-intuitive but shotgun is arguably the best weapon for Sniper because of the optimal ranges you get from Eagle Eye and Sniper. If you like shotguns, you should definitely give Sniper a try.

After going through this guide, I hope that you will be proficient at beating the game with his mastery. As with my other guides, this is designed to clear the game at the Nightmare difficulty.

Callisto

  • Hellrunner.
  • Hellrunner.
  • Eagle Eye.
  • Deadly Precision.
  • Sniper.

The two levels in Hellrunner will make the rest of the run consistent and it’s generally good all around. Then, grab the prerequistes for Sniper. The 1st real question will be at branch selection because it will depend whether you can go to Mimir or not.

Mimir: Can print an exotic shotgun but it is not guaranteed so risky.

Mines/Rift: JS armor still helps since you can eventually reach 200% crit. Mines can have the JS super shotgun, which is probably the best shotgun in the game.

If you found an exotic shotgun or a dual shotgun, read the section for shotgun build. If not, you likely went to mines/rift, you probably got a pair of JS armor so read the non-shotgun build.

Shotgun Build

  • Hoarder.
  • Scavenger.
  • Eagle Eye.
  • Sniper.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun, Juggler.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun, Juggler.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun, Juggler.
  • Sniper.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun, Juggler.

Congratulations. You walked out Callisto with an exotic shotgun (or the Monster) but you probably don’t have a lot of shotgun shells. At this point, you need to get Scavenger 1 just to not run out of ammo. Since shotguns are very ammo efficient, just Scavenger 1 is sufficient. If you don’t have a good AV2 shotgun AMP, make sure you go to Ruins, Refueling Base/the PIt, Shadow halls, Io Blacksite for the AV3 AMP for the most used weapon type.

After level 10, the core build is done. The other options are to complete Hellrunner 3, SoG to ensure 100% crit even not at max range, and juggler to quickly reload your shotguns (plasma and 12 gauge) after adding the Loading Holster bulk mod to your shotguns.

The plasma shotgun at Io 1 is likely better than all other shotguns except super shotgun, jackhammer, and the Monster.

Non-Shotgun Build

  • Son of a Gun.
  • Son of a Gun.
  • Son of a Gun.
  • Sniper.
  • Hellrunner 3.
  • Your choice.
  • Your choice.
  • Sniper.
  • Hacker.
  • Whizkid.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun.
  • Sniper.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun.
  • Hellrunner 3, Son of a Gun.
  • Sniper.

If you didn’t get a shotgun, I would recommend finding a 7.62 rifle, mod it with speed-loader, calibrate 1, and auto-calibrate. Since you have the JS armor, try to get close as possible to 100% base crit. In 1.6, I been rushing SoG3 but I believe you can clear Europa with Hellrunner 2 and Sniper just fine. The experimental approach now might be to get Whizkid 1 to mod Crit 10 to your helmet and amor, likely in Io 1, so you can get 200% crit at max range. Otherwise, you would need to get a 20% crit chance or better perk on your amp instead, which is a gamble. Getting whizkid at level 13 might be too late to mod Crit 10s. Do hit the branches with AV3 AMP for your most used weapon type also.

Gameplay Notes

Sniper is a OHKO mastery so keep your distance from enemies as much as possible. If in doubt, retreat.

For shotguns, aim manually if you are facing a group of enemies because the default angle of attack might not hit enemies that manual aiming can catch. This is really noticeable when using the focused shotgun. Also start hoarding 7.62 ammo starting from Europa L2-3 to convert them into shotgun shells instantly when you get Scavenger.

Sniper works with melee so if you can find one, consider keeping a strong melee weapon as a backup.

Keep large medkits and large military packs for the Harbringer fight.
