Project Zomboid – Starter Tips

Tips to Start

Alright, when starting the game I usually tend to add another shirt for my character in the menu just so I can tear it for sheets when I get in game. Those will be your early bandages right there.

Next thing I’d do is look for a pot or a sauce pan and start filling it with water, then put it in the stove and turn it on so you can boil it.

After that you can right click the sheets in your inventory to sterilize them (which will hold off and help fight an infection depending on fast you react). Same can be done with regular bandages.

From there on out, look for the essentials, food, water, and a can opener. Don’t forget to find some items to use as melee weapons.

When it comes to start game, always crouch and consider sprinting from time to time so you can level up lightfoot, sneaking, and sprinting over time.

Make sure to press Q but ONLY while crouching since it’ll make your character whisper. I usually recommend doing this more when you’re playing on apocalypse mode since weapon multi hit is disabled and you can only attack one zombie at a time.

For profession though I’d recommend choosing police officer if you want to survive in the long run, you get an extra slot in aiming compared to veteran and you start off with 1 nimble (which is how fast you’re able to move in combat stance), I say this because you get a multiplier for each skill that you progress through.

So you’ll only gain more experience up until a certain point to where it starts becoming hard again.

I’ll leave the rest up to you though, these are just a few starter tips to throw out.
