Baldur’s Gate 3 – How to Revive Characters

How to Revive Characters

Helping a Downed Party Member

There are two different states of dying for each character that require different forms of treatment. If you’re in the middle of a fight and your character/companion just went down, they’re only down, not completely dead. This means they’ll have to do several saving throws to prevent themselves from reaching the next step. Before they reach three failed saving throws or are hit by enemies adding to those failures, you can use the Help action on them.

As shown in the screenshot above, this is the brown action button to the left of your portrait in the bottom center of the screen. The small picture has one hand grabbing another to pull it up. You can use this action during or outside a fight to raise a downed party member. They’ll get up with only 1 health point. So be careful when reviving them during a fight, because they can easily go right back down.

Reviving a Dead Party Member

Now if a character or companion has completely died and can’t be helped back up, here’s what you do. You can use a Scroll of Revivify on that character’s body to revive them with 1 health point. Similar to as recommended above, be careful doing this during a battle where they can easily be killed again. Make sure you have a plan to heal them. There’s an exception to this situation for the companion Gale that follows his personal quest.

The other method for reviving characters if you don’t have a Scroll of Revivify is related to the chapel at the beginning of Baldur’s Gate III. The Chapel where you first found Shadowheart banging against a door has someone deep inside the ruins that can help.

Spoilers!!!!

At the back of the Dank Crypt area of the Chapel, there’s a button that opens a secret area. You can open a sarcophagus in here that reveals a Hooded Skeleton character. After a brief conversation, they’ll visit your campsite and stay there. The Hooded Skeleton will revive dead members of your party for 200 gold.

The Hooded Skeleton mentioned in the spoiler tag above can be found on the northern side of your campsite. They’ll tell you about how they can revive dead characters for 200 gold. The screenshot above shows what they look like.

I love two things in life, games and sports. Although sports were my earliest interest, it was video games that got me completely addicted (in a good way). My first game was Crash Bandicoot (PS1) from the legendary studio Naughty Dog back in 1996. I turned my passion for gaming into a job back in 2019 when I transformed my geek blog (Re-actor) into the gaming website it is today.
