This guide will contain a full list of items available from the Exotic Archive, the currencies/materials needed to purchase them and details on how to acquire these currencies.

Overview
The Exotic Archive is a new vendor that was initially added to the game as part of the Beyond Light expansion. Located in the Tower between the two Vault terminals the Exotic Archive allows you to purchase a selection of items that can no longer be acquired through their original questlines for a variety of in-game currencies.
This guide is accurate as of the time of writing and whilst I will update it as additional items are added to the Exotic Archive the guide may not be upto date if you’re looking at it at the start of any new season after Chosen.
Materials and Currencies
Each item you wish to purchase from the Exotic Archive will cost you one or more of the following currencies and materials.
Glimmer
Glimmer is the most basic currency in Destiny universe. You can earn it by killing enemies, completing objectives or dismantling items. Glimmer is primarily used for purchasing bounties and equipping mods but will also be used in various other purchase.
Legendary Shards
These are primarily obtained by dismantling legendary gear. These are used for upgrading and masterworking weapons and armour.
Planetary Materials
Each planet has a unique collectible material that can be earned by harvesting physical resource nodes, opening chests, completing bounties and completing patrols. These are primarily used for purchasing upgrade materials.

- Tangled Shore – Etheric Spiral
- Dreaming City – Baryon Bough
- Moon – Helium Filaments
Enhancement Prism
These can either be purchased from Banshee-44 in the Tower or Spider on the Tangled Shore. They can also drop from certain higher level activities such as the Nightfall. Like Legendary Shards these are primarily used for upgrading/masterworking weapons and armour.
Ascendent Shard
This is one of the rarest and most most expensive materials in the game. A handful can be earned each season through seasonal progression. Others will have to purchased from Banshee-44 in the Tower or earned through (Grand)master Nightfalls. All legendary armour requires one Ascendent Shard to masterwork it, all Exotic armour requires three.
Exotic Cipher
This is a new currency that was introduced ahead of the Exotic Archive in Season of Arrivals. One is available through a triumph to all players, one is available through the season pass each season and one per week can be earned by completing a quest for Xûr. You can only hold one of these in your inventory at a time and must use it before you can acquire another. Outside of the Exotic Archive the only other use for these at present are to buy a single additional exotic engram per week from Xûr.
Spoils of Conquest
These are a new currency that was added to the game alongside the Exotic Archive. These are earned by completing raid encounters and can also be used to purchase additional gear within the Deep Stone Crypt Raid.
Spider
If you visit Spider on the Tangled Shore you can make use of his material exchange services where you you can trade various resources you already have for others that you may need. Hi selection rotates daily but he always sells Enhancement Prisms, Enhancement Cores, Glimmer and a selection of planetary materials.
